Create Schematic Views from Faces Create Schematic Views from Top/Front Create Schematic Views from View Direction |
Design Suite: Entertainment > Visualization Spotlight: Spotlight > Visualization |
The Create Schematic View commands create dynamic 2D views of rigging objects and the attached loads. Create schematic views before or after you have finished designing in 3D. Schematic views are linked with the model, so applicable edits are transferred between the model objects and their schematic views; see Concept: Schematic views.
Select the command to match the desired result.
Create Schematic Views from Faces allows you to select the surfaces that generate the schematic views.
Create Schematic Views from Top/Front allows you to specify the top and front of the rigging; based on that directional alignment, more views can be generated.
Create Schematic Views from View Direction allows you to automatically generate schematic views based on the global orientation of the drawing.
To create schematic views:
Do one of the following:
To create a schematic view of a single rigging object, select the object.
To create individual schematic views of multiple rigging objects, select the objects.
To create a schematic view of a connected rigging system, select a rigging object in the system.
Select the command.
If you selected one of the first two commands, which involve clicking faces, the selected objects display with temporary faces that can be clicked upon.
Do one of the following:
If you selected Create Schematic Views from Faces, click at least one face. Each selected face creates a distinct instance of a schematic view. Double-click in the drawing, or click the green check mark in the Tool bar.
If you selected Create Schematic Views from Top/Front, indicate the two faces that represent the top and front faces of the rigging objects. The two selected faces should make a 90 degree angle. Remaining added views (left, right, bottom, and back) are automatically determined based on the selected two. This method maintains consistent directional alignment across multiple schematic views.
If you selected Create Schematic Views from View Direction, the views (front, left, right, top, bottom, and back) can be automatically generated, based on the global orientation of the drawing. This method maintains consistent directional alignment across multiple schematic views.
The Create Schematic Views dialog box opens.
Depending on how you proceeded, views are added automatically to the list, views can be edited, and/or the list is ready for you to add views. Specify each view's properties and other settings as described in Schematic view settings.
If Place with mouse click was selected, click to specify the location to place the schematic view or views on the designated layer or layers. Otherwise, the views are automatically placed.
For a single rigging object, the schematic view is placed.
For multiple rigging objects, the first schematic in the list is placed, and then each one is placed next to it in turn.
For a connected rigging system, the schematic views of the rigging object that was selected is placed first, followed by the system objects connected to it.
If selected, a schematic view marker is automatically added near the original rigging object to indicate the view direction of the schematic. Load objects within the rigging system are represented as separate schematic loads, shifted (if an offset was specified) to show exactly where the attachment point is and its orientation. The schematic versions of lighting devices display with their selected label legends and are automatically dimensioned if set.
Schematic views created from faces
If the schematic rigging objects overlap, they are placed on top of each other according to the stacking order. Use offsets for the loads if needed.

In a schematic Front view of the circular truss system, the overlapping trusses are placed on top of each other for a realistic appearance
In the schematic view, lighting devices and other load objects can be added, removed, and repositioned; see Managing loads for more information.
Once the schematic view has been created, it can be updated if the original objects change. See Updating schematic views.
Schematic view settings
Regardless of the method of creating the schematic view or views, the Create Schematic Views dialog box opens.

Manage |
Opens the Manage Schematic View Sets dialog box; this allows you to rename, duplicate, and delete the schematic view sets. You can also access this dialog box from the Visualization > Manage Schematic View Sets command from the Entertainment menu in the Design Suite workspace, or the Spotlight menu, so you can manage saved sets without creating a view. Additional functionality allows you to export and import the sets, so you can share sets between files and with colleagues. Click Export to send the currently selected set to the User Folder. When importing, select the set from the User Folder, or select a Vectorworks file with the set to be imported, and click Import. If there is a conflict with the set names, you are prompted to either replace the current set or rename the imported set. |

Schematic view settings: Label Legends
2D label legends can be assigned to each lighting device in a schematic view. Using label legends as identifiers for lighting devices in schematic views is helpful, because the selected component view may not display the differences between model types in a manufacturer's line. For more information, see Creating label legends.
Keep label legends clean and compact when labeling the lighting devices in a schematic view. Using the Instrument Type attribute in the label legend with a shortened name is recommended.

Parameter |
Description |
|
Schematic View Name |
Displays the name of the schematic view, plus the view name if it was appended. This can be edited. |
|
2D Component View |
Displays the selected view for the 2D components of the schematic view; this can be changed by selecting a different view from the list. When changed, an offset load preserves its offset position. Its witness line adjusts to stay connected with the hanging point in the new view. In most cases, when the 2D Component View matches the drawing view, the orientation of schematic objects matches the orientation of the referenced model objects. However, the orientation of schematic loads may differ from the model in certain views, if the referenced loads are rotated at a different angle from their rigging objects. |
|
Note |
Adds a note about the schematic view object; this can be displayed in data tags |
